A few weeks before its release Rock Band arrived in a giant box and eyes lit up. Joe Renaud and Ryan Thompson, head of content and video respectively, are both in bands and tore up the box with invigorated enthusiasm that bordered on obsession. Nexy (Game Tester), Calc (Community Manager), Lennox (video) and even programmer Paul huddled around the station for a go.
I watched on with mild amusement as I slaved away on a writing assignment at my desk. This is how gamers commune, I thought to myself, a four-person Rock Band session communicating all those things that would otherwise remain silent. All seemed peachy. Most of the casual players tapered off and, like most games that we get, the initial hype seemed to die down and things went back to normal (i.e. Halo).
